Damn You Norway, Australia and Iceland!!

The UN has done a survey of the “best” places to live, and Canada finished a very respectable 4th. Norway was #1, followed by Australia and Iceland. Niger edged out Afghanistan for the very worst place to live.

Here’s the whole top 10:

  • Norway
  • Australia
  • Iceland
  • Canada
  • Ireland
  • The Netherlands
  • Sweden
  • France
  • Switzerland
  • Japan

Please do note that this is based on 2007 data and does not reflect the global recession -- we’re looking at you, Iceland or should I call you Brokeland -- so things may have changed, but I do find it interesting some countries (yes, I’m thinking of more than one) you would expect in the top 10 are not present.

One other curiosity: Lichtenstein is home to only 35,000 people in total, yet has the highest per capita average income in the world. To put it colloquially, what’s up with that??

Popped out right away that 8 out of10 countries have a four-season climate; not too sure about Japan, the northern islands might. Chas, link that information with longevity and see what happens.

You shouldn't "damn" Norway, Iceland, and Australia. That's not the Canadian way. Americans strive to be #1 in all things... ("Second is the just the first loser" ... to paraphrase an American Olympic athlete.)

The Canadian way is to just be happy we were noticed at all.

"We're #4! We're #4! We're #4!"

And then point out that Canada ranked higher than our American cousins.

Not all of us Americans were taught this "number one at all costs" philosophy. Some of us, like out Canadian brothers and sisters are simply trying to make it on a day-to-day basis with simple civil principles.
