Snowmageddon continues...

I posted this to my other journal this morning, but thought I'd bring it over here...

On day 9 of snow on the ground. No records for that broken...record is 20 days back in 1972 and 16 consecutive days in 1993. But the lowdropping to -9C on Friday did break a record for the coldest December 19th ever...previous record was -6.8 in 1990. And the windchill has been a bitch too.

We had a big (for us) dumping of snow last night and more is expected throughout the day and tonight. It was very foggy out last night...not sure if it was fog and snow or just really heavy snow falling.

I am going into work for a few hours today as things don't seem as crazy as last Sunday...we're all sorta getting used to this stuff though more than a few are over it. :P

From the Times Colonist...

Record low temperatures in the region provide for rare sights, like the frozen Legislature fountain, much to the delight of passing-by tourists.

Global warming??? I don't (brrrrr) think so.

"Global warming" as about the Earth's internal temperature, not what it is outside on a particular day.

Predictions regarding global warming call for more extreme weather and more unusual weather patterns, not "more heat everywhere."

Since we are clearly seeing a change in the arctic air flow patterns that are out of the norm for this region, this snow is actually PROOF of exactly the sort of climate change that usually goes under the catch-all heading "Global warming."

But I agree it's a bad name. :)

Now will someone tell the above to Lou Dobbs?? :D

Hello from an absentee Salt Springer...

Chas, I agree with you about climate change..... wild extremes (both hot and cold) being the indicators. Thats why I like the term "Climate Change" vs "Global Warming".... Global warming is just too easy a target for those who don't accept it.

However, despite what the Victoria travel bureau may have told you, this isn't the "unusual" weather that Climate Change brings, IMHO. The unusual weather was the 4 decades of warm winters across Canada that preceded the last couple of years.

Hope you like winters!

We're in NY, after only a 4 hour delay.... and we are happy we got off easy.
