There *IS* progress being made.

For the last month or so, we have been spending a few hours on the weekends to pack and purge. And there is lots to purge. We have made some visible pregress, at least to us. At the moment though, I think we have put as much as we can into the storage unit, but there will still be lots of purging in our future. How do we accumulate so much stuff? There is a part of me that feels bad about getting rid of so much stuff...that's the eco-hippie chic in me talking. There is also a sentimental side speaking. How can I get rid of this or that from my childhood? This little clay tea set, that music box, the jewelry box with my name engraved on it, the giant pillow with my name embroidered on it from my bat mitzvah, and so on...

I just hate throwing things away when I can breathe new life into them somehow. It isn't that I am artsy and can totally change something useless into something useful or anything. At least we have been giving a fair amount of stuff to friends and local charities and thrift stores, so I can feel somewhat redeemed that we are not throwing everything away, but I shudder to think what our "footprints" will look like when the move is all said and done. It goes without saying that a purge like this is needed, and has been needed for quite some time. And the ecological impact has always been there. I wonder if there is really a way to move in an ecologically sound manner.

Well, I guess that is it for now, but I wanted to make this post since today we finished cleaning out one of the hallway closets, and we definitely feel some measure of progress.
