Aug Con't: Jim & Sue Visit, Part Two

Oops, what with the Canadian Thanksgiving and the elections (Canada and US) and the power outage and everything, we haven’t made much progress on our August Adventures lately, but let's carry on regardless.

When we last left our heroes, we had spent the first full day of their vacation taking Jim & Sue to Butchart Gardens . But even though we’d gotten plenty of exposure to flora, we were seriously lacking in the fauna department, so we stopped by the Victoria Butterfly Gardens to get our fill! Once again, my trusty Canon S3 IS did a great job and we got some (if I may say so myself) killer shots of the butterflies, flamingos and other creatures enjoying what must be the most hot & sultry Florida-like environment on this island (short of the steam baths)!

We capped off our day with a tour of the seafront at Dallas Road. All of our visitors so far have really enjoyed this, marvelling at the beauty of the Olympic Mountains of Washington state, so close and yet just ... far ... enough! We drove up to King George Terrace to get a panoramic view of the fabulous houses, the mountains and of course the sea, and then walked down the rocky face almost back down to street level. The rock formations are the direct result of volcanic activity some 10,000 years ago, and make for a vigourous (if challenging) walk ... at least going back up, anyway. So that wraps up our first full day together, but don't worry there's a lot more coming! In the meantime, enjoy our picture gallery !
