First Order of Business

If you think that being homeless, unemployed and on the road would stop me from attending the premier of Mac OS X 10.5 (aka Leopard), you don't know me vewwy well, do you? :)

Back when Apple offered a $100 voucher to early iPhone adopters, I had thought in the back of my mind that I might use it for Leopard. I have connections for wholesale and academic pricing, so sometimes that works out to be a better deal (it did for Tiger). I've been exceedingly happy with the iPhone, so I wasn't bothered a bit by the price drop as some WATB were.

So when we hit Pittsburgh on the night of the premiere, I knew we had to find an Apple Store. I've been meaning to freshen my system for a while now (I load my system up with all kinds of beta crap for the benefit of those who ask me advice later), and the new features looked promising (I can see where Time Machine will be a huge benefit to typical users).

So we went, and the lineup stretched to the end of the block. Here's a picture. I'm a nerd. :)

The indepth reviews I've read on Leopard thus far give me pause. I was not going to move forward on my home G5 anytime soon. I have far better uses for $100. But at work I have no such restraint. Nevertheless, reading about UI changes like the "Disco Dock" or the folder icons of great subtlety rub me the wrong way, and until Acrobat Professional 8 [vital to my work] is Leopard compliant, I am not touching the thing in any case, but I wonder... I wonder.
